Townsend is now on more per week than he was whilst playing for West Brom in the Premier League. He has featured in all 18 matches so far this season and is a key starter for the Baggies at left-back.

#9 Darnell Furlong – £17,000 (£884,000 per year)

Furlong’s popularity amongst the fans has waned in the past year or so, as inconsistency has become a major part of his game. Taylor Gardner-Hickman became real competition for the 27-year-old at right-back before he was deployed further up the pitch. It’s clear that if a right-back is signed anytime soon, Furlong will likely lose his place.

#8 Karlan Grant – £20,000 (£1,040,000 per year)

Karlan Grant cost the Baggies around £16m but in no way, shape or form, has he been worth the amount paid for him. His market value is now around £5.4m. Primarily a left-winger, Grant is often deployed as a centre-forward. The signing of Daryl Dike was supposed to mean he would move back out left, but Dike’s injury woes have stalled those plans. Grant has three goals in 17 games.

#7 Daryl Dike – £22,000 (£1,144,000 per year)

We are yet to see just how good Daryl Dike can be because of his constant battle with injuries. He has all the attributes of a strong No 9, even drawing comparisons to former Baggies striker Romelu Lukaku. His return couldn’t come soon enough, though, as West Brom cannot rely on Grant up front for much longer.

#6 Adam Reach – £23,000 (£1,196,000 per year)

Signed in the summer of 2021 to be a utility player for West Brom, Reach has never really lived up to expectation. This season he has rarely been seen, save for the late substitution here and there. It’s obvious that he is of no real use to the club, yet he’s still being paid the sort of wages reserved for key players.
