It was a while before West Brom reaped the rewards of this transfer window, but their business ultimately paid off as Phillips, Robson-Kanu and Livermore all played crucial roles in getting Albion promoted back to the Premier League this season (2019/20).

Full backs Nyom and Galloway were Pulis’ replacements for Pocognoli and Gamboa; however, like their predecessors, they struggled to make any notable impact.

The outgoings were perhaps more impressive than the incomings, though, with Albion gaining an astonishing £12m for former fan-favourite Berahino, who, like Odemwingie, felt he was bigger than the club.

In: Giles Barnes, Paul Scharner, Pablo Ibanez and Steven Reid (Free); Frank Nouble and Ben Watson (Loan); Gabriel Tamas, Peter Odemwingie, Nicky Shorey, Simon Tchoyi, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Craig Dawson (Undisclosed); Boaz Myhill (£1.5m).

Out: All outgoings this summer went on loan, so in that respect, it was a pretty quiet one. Albion did make the wise decision to loan Craig Dawson back out to Rochdale, which proved crucial in his development and therefore eventual success at West Brom for nearly 10 years.

Roberto Di Matteo had just won West Brom promotion back to the Premier League and it was time to strengthen the squad.

Though Di Matteo was eventually sacked, he made some shrewd signings in Odemwingie and Dawson, both of whom excelled during their time at the Hawthorns.

Nicky Shorey made 53 appearances in Albion’s defensive line and is perhaps an underrated signing as he played a key role in stabilising West Brom’s position in the Premier League.
