West Bromwich Albion defender Ahmed Hegazi has responded to questions regarding his future at the club amid transfer links to his former club Al Ahly.

It was the lack of gametime that initially sparked transfer rumours, as to those who had not been following West Brom’s season to know that he had been sidelined with injury and out for several matches from suspension, it may have seemed like Hegazi had become a fringe player.

But this isn’t the case, of course, as the 29-year-old played a key role in Albion’s promotion campaign and whenever he was available, Hegazi was almost always the first name on the teamsheet.

Regardless, the Egyptian centre-back was asked by ON Time Sports channel about his future after having been linked to Al Ahly:

I played for Al Ahly for two years and gave my best so I am happy to be linked to the club again and for the love of the fans.

However I can’t comment on anything in the time being because I still have two years in my contract with WBA.

We went through an extremely difficult couple of seasons but the club’s board have an important project and kept the team’s best players so we managed to seal promotion

Hegazi responded to the questioning in a skillfully diplomatic manner, knowing just what to say to keep both parties content for now.

The Egypt international joined West Brom three years ago from Al Ahly for £4.5m and has been an asset for the Baggies ever since, quickly becoming a fan favourite after a sublime debut season in the Premier League.

It’s unlikely that Hegazi would be interested in leaving the Baggies anytime soon, though, as he’s worked so hard to achieve promotion with the club and is now set to reap the rewards of his accomplishment by playing in the Premier League.
